I was disappointed to read about the bill proposed by 11 of the 23 Republicans in the US Senate. These disgraceful ‘representatives’ want to legalise discrimination against gay and lesbian couples with Senate Bill 5927. It aims to go beyond religious exclusions, allowing businesses to discriminate based on ‘philosophical beliefs’ or even ‘matters of conscience’. In the 21st Century this is shameful.

These hateful imbeciles fail to recognise that a dollar or pound earned by an LGBT individual is just as hard earned, valuable and worth the same as those earned by a heterosexual person. Never mind the countless other moral questions arising from this awful Bill. Enough is enough. Direct collective action is required by refusing to buy products from businesses who think they can discriminate. I plead with you to only buy products from businesses who champion equality.  For instance, following examples similar to Stag N Bone Apparel.

In a conversation with a friend he summed up exactly how I feel. He said- “If this is passed, any business with any shred of decency should refuse services and rights to Republicans and those from religions who support this on the “philosophical” grounds that they are utter d****.”

We lose count of the number of times we are told that America is the land of the free, yet policies show this to be untrue. Incidentally, this is not just an American problem, it is global. This is yet another reason that it has taken until 2013 for well-known sports stars such as NBA player Jason Collins to come out as gay. I applaud his courage. We need more celebrities like Jason to come out, so businesses that follow laws like Bill 5927 can be challenged.

To quote Michelle Obama- ”You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own”

Let’s get rid of titles. As I mentioned, an individual’s sexuality has no bearing on how well they do a job, or how much their money is worth on the international market.

America- the land of the free. As long as you are white, heterosexual and Christian.

Why the labels?
