Join the Board
The LGBT Network are in the process of assembling a board of trustees and are urgently looking for board members from up and down Scotland.
In order to appeal to the widest audience possible, we are not insisting on any formal board membership experience as a pre-requisite for application but will be expecting prospective trustees to demonstrate excellent communication skills, integrity, strategic vision, ability to exercise good independent judgement, the ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak their mind.
Board Membership can be challenging, can take you out of your comfort zone and can really wrack your brain – but it can be rewarding, immensely valuable and fantastic experience for your CV. Being a member of the Board of Trustees will give you management experience, experience of governance, finance and charity law as well as hands-on experience of making difficult decisions.
Checklist for application – Can you say yes to the following?
1. Aged 16 or over (Under 18’s will not be full board members)
2. Live in Scotland and can easily travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh for board meetings
3. Have a strong interest in LGBT issues, have a good understanding of the LGBT community (either identify as LGBT or have developed a strong knowledge of the issues affecting the community)
4. Have not been banned or suspended from acting as a Director by Companies House, OSCR, The Charity Commission or a UK court of law
5. Understand and accept the moral conflict of interest statement which can be viewed here
6. You accept the legal duties and responsibilities which govern a successful appointment as a Board Member and Charity Trustee. Find out more information here
